I recently welded in some bungs to 1.5-1/2 wall tubing to make my tierod. I guess we got it too hot, now the tierod ends won't thread in:doah:. Does anybody have a 7/8-18 (I believe) Right and Left hand tap? I've tried eveywhere around my area, but nobody has them. If not an individual, maybe a reputable company that I could send my tierod to.

I think ORD could do it for you. If I remember correct the LH tap is very expensive. I had to shorten my tierod and went through the same thing.

Yeah I figured they would probably do it for a small fee. I may just have to send it to them. Thanks for the response.

I have said taps in my collection. 7/8 18 if I remember correctly. Where in Georgia are you?

I'm in Madison. It's somewhat between Atlanta and Augusta on I-20. I don't guess you ever make it up this way do you?:D I spoke with ORD and they said they could do it, but the cost of shipping both ways would be more than what I have in the tierod:doah:

this is a link to the place where I bought my rh tap. Do not know if they have lh taps but I paid $26 my rh tap and have used it a dozen times since I got it for friends and myself. if you are interested in buying your own tap you might check it out because it is the cheapest I found them.

That would be great if I could get both for the same price, but I have a feeling the Left hand tap is going to cost a good bit. Thanks for the Link!

fyi both those taps would prob fit in a small flat rate box for 4.95 shipping usps. fast and easy. mabye send them up . use them and ship back for around 10 bucks total. :D

Not that this will help you now, but when I did mine, I threaded old ends in before I started throwing heat at it. It's a bigger heat sink and if I had been throwing too much heat at it I would have been able to feel it with my hand.

Good luck chasing the threads. Hopefully there isn't a bunch of weld in the threads and they're just warped a bit.

If someone was willing to let me borrow the taps that would be great. I wasn't really expecting anyone to lone out their tools to a stranger
though. I guess the proper way to weld them would be to do it slow and alternate sides and not get it hot.
