I'm dealing with very rusty rockers in a 70 K5. I just got a bunch of rocker parts from LMC and I am actually impressed with their quality (much heavier then stuff I got from JC Whitneys in the past). I am puzzled by the box under the floor, behind the rockers. It seems to be bolted on the trailing edge but welded at the firewall. There are two bolts on either end of the door opening that are covered by the rocker. I can't see any way to replace those bolts when I put in the new parts without removing the box. The more I look at it the more I wonder if I really need it. Its my understanding that the trucks didn't use them. Any ideas?

From what I have been told yes you need them. If you remove them and the torque rod inside of them you lose the rigidness you need for the body. With them removed even if you don't remove the top you will have to much bofy twist. Hope that helps Denny

Yep, the boxes are what keep the cab from folding up on the convertible. The trucks don't need them because they have a roof.

Thanks guys. I'll figure out how to work around them. I was wondering what the rod inside the box was. Now I know.
