700/241/D44/14BFF/37"tires: 4.88 or 5.13's?

And if you are wondering just how small the pinion will get here is a pic of my old 3.08 pinion on the left and my 4.88 pinion on the right.

I run 4.88's in my 94 Sub with d44 & 14bb and 35" BFG's. I wish I had done the 4.56's. I constantly run out of gear at the top end/ freeway. I have a 383 in it,so I'm not lacking power. I cruise, in overdrive, at 2700-3000rpm. So for your 37's, if it were me, I'd do the 4.88s.

he has OD man.... since your profile says turbo 400 im guessing its a non OD 400.

If you would have payed attention he is talking about his Burban in his profile that is his 78 K5. Better to remain silent and thought a fool than open ones mouth and remove all doubt.

Im telling you go with 5.13's, I have a GM crate 350 and its power band is just above what I cruise at highway speeds, at 65 I am turning about 2400 RPM's, and I would like to be in the 2600 range.
I am running yukon gears and they seemed to be of high quility. They were pretty easy to set up to.

damn.... anybody missing a stick? :haha: :rotfl:

just f'in with ya man.

do you really think he has OD with 3000 rpm on the highway? If so i'll bet you 100 bucks he doesn't have OD or has alot of speeding tickets.

I am now kinda wishing I went 4.56 with the sub in my sig.I am realy burning some gas at 80 on the highway but it is nice to climb slight inclines with out a downshift.I know I'll never be able to tow faster than 60 mph in D.This is my work truck though and spends most all of its time on the highway.

I have 4.88's with 36" Iroks, which are the same basic size as most other 37's, and it is plenty of gear, BUT I would have rather gone with 5.13's when i regeared, but they werent available for my rear axle which is a 14 bolt SF. It does suck to drive on the freeway in D sometimes, but with a 700 the cruising RPM is perfect and if my engine had some more power it wouldn't hardly ever have to downshift i think.

the optimum gear also depends on what you feel is highway speeds. some people want to be in the sweet spot at 65, some at 80.

my truck w/ 4.56 + 35's in OD turns 2500rpm @ 80mph. i think i liked it better with 33's and same combo..2500rpm= around 75.

maybe i just need more power :D stock TBI sux.

yeah stock tbi and OD definatly sux... so does 3rd gear up long highway hills.

So why is there a 600 rpm difference between retroblazer and 85 mudblazin?

causs one cruises the highway at 65, the other at 80+

Ok. This one has the turbo 400, www.rafforacing.com The profile is of my race Blazer, but my chase vehicle is the 94 Sub. And yes, I tend to drive it fast, and no I don't get many tickets. In fact it's been over five years since I received a souvenir from officer friendly. Knock on wood.

me and him are running different trannys, his "highway" speed may be higher then mine, if i am going 75MPH then my RPM's are up into the 2600-2800's which is where I like it but I usually dont go that fast.

not really tho... a 4l60E is pretty much the same tranny and has the same gear ratios doesn't it?

I figured he was either a speeder or a non OD guy.

one question to go along with the gear selection issue. What is(or would be) the optimal highway crusing rpm's. I too am in the need for some gears mine is not the highway pounder but when it does see the highway I don't want to be winding the guts out of it. Tire size will be 38's.

P.S. Not ment to hijack thread just add another question to go along with original.

i think the optimal cruising rpm is around 2500rpm for a stock 350chevy.
