I'm thinking about getting rid of my crap box 700r4 and swapping in a 465/205 setup or find a 465/208 and replace the 208 with my 241.

Have a couple of questions if any body can help me:

1.) I'm told a 465/205 setup is about 3" shorter than my 700/241 and if so will my front driveshaft need to be shortened as well or is the length decrease only due to the short rear output of the 205?

2.) I'm told it's not hard to setup the assembly with when not using a hydraulic clutch, but how hard is it to set it up with hydro

Also, how much length does a 203/205 doubler add to drivetrain and could I do like a 203/241 doupler?

Thanks, y'all

You want hydraulic clutch. Your truck is designed for it, use it. Don't ask questions, just pony up the money and do it. :)

There should be some posts on the various lengths (SHOULD being the key word). 465/241 should be the same length as the 700/208 IIRC, helped keep the shifters and driveshafts the same length.

I'd like to keep my 241 cuz I just SYE it and spent some change on the HAD CV shaft so that's why I'm asking about the length

I think you've got the one thing the 241 really needs that the 205 came with often, no slip yoke, so nothing wrong with keeping the 241, it's a good case.

The adapter is going to be your key. All the 241's and all the 465's are the same length, it's the adapter length that changed, but I don't know about the 241 vs the 208, they might be the same length? Just wondering if the 208 and 241 adapters were the same...if they were that would make sourcing easier. That would make calculations easier as well. 700R4 length +NP241 adapter length vs 465 length +NP241 adapter length.

208 and 241 are a direct swap for each other and the adapters are the same as well.

well how much shorter in total length would a 465/241 setup and a 465/205 setup be in contrast to my 700r4/241 setup? Am I basically looking at having to get my new CV rear shaft retubed?

Your 241 is 27-spline. The 208 is 32-spline or 10-spline depending on how old it is. Will have to swap shafts. I don't know if you can get a 10-spline input for a 241 though.
