The 700 r4 in my blazer has 5 gears total. It shifts through 4 gears before overdrive. All the other vehicles I've driven with 700r4s only have 4 gears total. My tranny was built right before I bought it .I know it has a trans-go shift kit.Why does mine have an extra gear??

That fifth gear you feel is the torque converter locking up, all its doing is stopping the slippage in the transmission. If you go down the road, at cruising speed, with your foot on the gas, tap the brake pedal and you will feel this "fifth" gear go away when you tap the pedal and comeback when you let off the pedal.

are you smoking the reefer? jk hmm thats weird, maybe it has one of those overdrive kits on it in addition to the factory overdrive. do u get good mpg with it at least? or maybe its what ^he said

preeeeeeeeeeeecisely

I have a 4l60E in my DD and a 700 in my trail truck. Both have lockup convertors that "feel" like it has another gear.

No 5 gears in 700r4. Only 4. The last shift you are feeling in the torque convertor locking up. When it lockes up. The 200 or so RPM drop makes it feel like it shifts 5 times.
