The tranny shifted fine all the way to overdrive
and than i jumped on it to pass a beemer and the tranny let go,
i thought ok, i lost overdrive oh well, i slowed down and gave it gas again NOTHING i downshifted all the way to second before i got anything.

i have 1st 2nd and reverse. can you all tell me a reason for this i changed the fluid and filter last fall. and i havent done much wheeling (i dont like snow wheeling) so water isnt a question. and the trans shifted and felt fine up until this point.

the fluid is up and
it doesnt smell burnt and
is not foamy

im stumped except for the fact that its the original tranny with 251,000 on the clock, is it common to loose 3rd and overdrive in 700's?
thanks
luke

yes it's common for the original trans to lose 3rd, 4th. happaned to me. the biggest reason was that i used the tranny improperly. should remember to shift into drive when towing and around town. overdrive is only for 55mph and faster. basically after you rebuild it. use it like a th350. then for long trips and such shift up to overdrive. also cooling is your friend w/ 700r4. add another trans cooler and an external filter. all these parts are available from summitracing.com and shipping is free(except for a small packaging fee of $6, so make the order as big as you can afford to save).

personally i like the B&M shift kit. mine kicks like a son of a gun from 1st to 2nd. makes spinning 38's easy even w/ stock 10bolt posi and 3.73 gears.

it didnt make any sounds or anything just let the two gears go and TWEAKER
you have a point their i have most of the time left it in overdrive around town that probably didnt help much.
but it didnt even make any noise before hand which is stupid

i need to find a used 700 soon cause its my DD grrrr as well as my wheeler

mine didn't make any sounds, it just gave out while climbing a grade and bickty bamn, 35mph all the way down the other side and into the nearest town. and those were the simpler days before lift kits and big tires.

simple reminder: "lift it, fat chicks can't jump"

well its werid im going to try and find a good used one, paint it up and see if i can clock the 208

any other ideas would be awesome
the fluid is not even burnt its so strange
