I am swaping a 700-R4 for my thm350 in my 1979 Jimmy. I am going to use a short input shaft kit from advance adapters. I have stock suspension and axles. What else would I have to worry about to do this swap?
First off, you mean a short output shaft I am sure. If you are using a NP205 the front driveshaft will hit the tranny pan. You should use the spacer instead and then there is no tranny tear down involved and no front driveshaft issues. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
The spacer is still cheaper than the shaft. The shaft is like $160.00 whereas the spacer is only $50.00. Don't forget you will also have to buy a kit for the lock-up convertor to work correctly.
I believe there are no driveshaft issues with using the 203. If you are replacing a TH350 the front driveshaft will be too short and the rear too long. The difference in length between a TH350 and a 700R4 is 1 7/8" the 700R4 being longer.
No length issue, I am running a 700/203 with stock 350/203 shafts. Even when I had only 4" of lift and the axles in the stock location I had no issues. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
The front output doesn't hit the pan on all TH700/205 applications, just the ones where you try to use the 3R CV instead of the 1310.
With a 203, I think I'd be inclined to use the output shaft even more so that usual, since the thing ends up hanging off the back of the transmission adapter. Either way, the way the 203 is built, the only problems you will have are with the 'shaft lengths, not the clearances.
