i know your suppose to run mercon blah blah, but what if u ran say type F or mercon VI instead of III,or any other types.any positives? negatives? im putting a new tranny in and thought some better fluid might help.

I run type F fluid in my trans for the firmer shifts. Type F fluid has fewer friction modifiers and is actually a crappier fluid than most other ATFs. Mercon V has considerably more friction modifiers than dexron III and can cause sluggish shifts in a trans that wasn't originally designed for it especially if the trans is old and tired.

I'd recommend either sticking with Dexron or type F in a 700r4 the heavy doses of friction modifier may lead to an early death of the 3-4 clutch.

hmm...ya that seems to make sense, and stiffer shifts/more grunt is what im looking for, type F seems good. thanks man!
