Well, it looks like I nuked my 700r4... :(

I'm looking to do this right once, so I'm gonna go for a pretty bulletproof unit... All the upgrades..

I have a 10 spline 205 downstairs from my 465 setup.. I really want to run that now and ditch the 208... I know it wont be a killer crawl ratio, but thats ok..

I know I'll need a different adapter...

my questions are...

is the 10 spline that horrible? can I just change the imput shaft over to 32? I'll be going over the 205 anyway...

will I want to go with the short output shaft out of the 700r4, or is the spacer setup a better way to go?

I should know these answers, they've been covered quite a few times.. Now it's smacking me in the wallet/face, time to learn it... :o

anyone have any links to the adapter? advanced adapters? spacer? 32 spline 205 stuff?

Thanks for any help....

The 700r4 is a 27 spline output---for ease of installation i would just switch the 205 to a 27 spline. It's just a matter of finding the input--should only be a matter of time looking through ebay. if you did want to change the 205 over to a 32 its a matter of getting the bearing and boring out the case to accept the bigger input. any capable machine shop can do this, just make kure you give them the bearing so they can match it exactly. As far as the 700, i am not sure if this is possible but who knows----while the trans is apart for rebuild you would need to swap the 27 output for the 32--again i am not sure this is possible. I have no idea as far as the adaptor is concerned, if you can redrill it or buy a whole new one--look into Novak adaptors and advance adaptors. i believe the shorter output shave is the better way to go instead of the spacer--less things to go wrong and less places to leak.

If you kept the 10 spline on the 205 (which is not that bad, usually its the couplers that get slop in them) Advance has a kit part # 50-6906 to mate the 2 considering you still have the origional adapter. i think thats all i can figure right now

thanks for the reply man...

sorry for the noobish questions, I'm just not versed in this stuff yet... i assumed 32 was the way i wanted to go... didn't realize 27 was pretty easy...

ok, now i'm seeing it.. this kit will allow me to use all my parts... new output shaft for the 700, use my old 465 to 205 adapter with the new coupler, and my 10 spline 205... http://72.20.96.178/commerce/ccpc12...o-10-spline-np205-coupler-50-6906-50-6906.htm

is that correct?

but now i'm thinking, if i get a raptor built, they'll be putting in the short shaft and i would only need to buy the coupler http://72.20.96.178/commerce/ccpc12...o-27-spline-np205-coupler-52-9502-52-9502.htm , would that be right?

and am i correct in assuming that 465 to 205 adapter i have will bolt to the back of the 700?

yup

i think that depends on how you build it. I have not dealt with Raptor but i would assume they will build it how ever you want. Now if you ordered the 50-6906 you could supply them the shaft and just have them install it while they are building it.

and am i correct in assuming that 465 to 205 adapter i have will bolt to the back of the 700?

yup

thanks bud, you've been a huge help.....

anyone know a good place to buy a rebuild kit for this 205 I have?

I got mine from ORD but after some research after the fact i could have gotten it cheaper on ebay---NWF, ORD, Parts Mike, are just a few

Here is my .02 on this matter. First the 700R4 is 27 spline output as was already stated. Secondly, if you use the short shaft in the 700R4 then you need a TH350/205 adapter and then you'll have trouble with the front driveshaft hitting the tranny pan. The best way to do this conversion is by using the 7Q-35A spacer from http://www.teckpak-fitzall.com/ then use the TH350/205 adapter this way you don't need to swap output shafts in the trans and now you no longer have the issue of the front driveshaft hitting the tranny pan.

Thanks Scott....

You've brought up a couple things for me to consider..

I had remembered about the driveshaft thing... But I didn't realize it was the 350/205 adapter I was gonna need...

I think what all this is telling me is that I should just put a new tranny in with the 208 for now... the 205 project is/can be a standalone project if I retain the stock 27 output..

i can then gather the spacer, 350/205 adapter, coupler and go over the 205 at my leisure... maybe upgrade the 10 spline... and maybe the 205 outputs too..

When I went from the 10 spline 465/205 to 32 spline 465/205 (different trans/t-cases) I eliminated essentially all of the drivetrain "slop" in my setup. Reiterating that the trans/t-cases were replaced with newer, so that may have been some of it, but I don't think that was all of it. I had near 90* of crank rotation before the drivetrain was fully "engaged".

With an auto it may be transparent, as there is essentially constant pressure on the driveline. As soon as I installed injection, I noticed how bad the "slop" was. The truck bucked pretty heavily in gear, idling forward, as the drivetrain wound up and unwound as the idle air control tried to keep engine RPM's steady.

The 10 spline coupler really didn't look bad when I took it apart, although some pics I've seen, they are worn to the point of looking like knife edges.

ok, I need to revisit this issue...

I've decided to do the 205-700r4 now...

Is this the adapter I need? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=200183563024&rd=1

also, if I wanted make the 205 bombproof, I would want the short 32 imput shaft, can this be made to work with the 700? even after the bearing machining, how would i couple that to the 700?

or would i just be better off upgrading the 10 input shaft up to the 27 spline?

personaly, i would use the 27 spline. sounds alot easier.

hijack...figure 8 and round adaptors can they be interchanged? i have short tailshaft 2wd th400...i was told i could pull tailshaft housing get 32/27 spline coupler and th400/np205 adapt and put the 2wd th400 where my th350 is. i dont know which adapter tho...1980 np205...1968 2wd th400/it looks round where tailshaft housing bolts up not sure about tc? hijack off

edit...sorry for hijack, i saw ebay ad stated figure8, and wondered?

I would *think* if it were out there, a 32 spline 700 output would be the way to go. I know it wouldn't be a factory piece, maybe there is some diameter issue?

You can buy a bearing that doesn't require the 205 to be cut for the 32 spline input BTW, it's been posted before. Might have to do some real digging to find it though.

1980 (and likely earlier in some cases) 4WD would have likely had a TH350/205 setup, correct? Which would have had to have been a 27 spline to 10 adapter I think.

the 1980 205 is a 10 spline behind a 27 spline th350? when did th350 205 go to 27 spline?

still the 350/205 adapter and 27 spline 205 input...sounds like most logical approach 2 ur 700. just my $.02

TH350 version 205's were always 27 spline.

sheesh, this stuff is giving me a headache... :wink1:

Not as much tech as the 700, but still I'm looking to upgrade both the input and front output shaft...

found a 27 spline input on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NP-2...019QQitemZ290191212928QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
seems thats the easiest, decent upgrade... i haven't even figured out IF you can mate up the 700 to a 32 imput, so 27 it is...

I did just buy that 350/205 adapter too... but have no idea where to buy the 27 spline coupler tho..

also i want to upgrade the 10 spline front output to 30 or 32.. it looks like the 32 ford is the best swap.. tho they seem to be a fair amount pricier than the 30...

still a little lost on the whole yoke gig.... whats the beefiest setup to run? 1410? 1350?

i do see that going 32 ford out the front allows me to use rear output yokes... but is this the most bulletproof? freakin expensive... :eek1:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bran...023QQitemZ360005361201QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I kept an eye out on eBay and here in the classifieds for my parts & adapters. Overall I think I found the best prices here in the classifieds. I'm doing the same as you are, mating a 205 to a 700, but I'm not confident enough to give much advice on it and mine is still in parts:o For the 350/205 adapter be sure to get one with the sleeve as I don't think I ever saw just the sleeve by itself. There is also a tall & short adapter so be sure to get what you need.

eesh, i hope i luck out on that one... thats the the first i've heard of tall and short.. your not talking figure 8 vs round are you?

worst case scenario, i'm sure the 27 spline sleeve is available somewhere.. it is a wear part afterall..

i still have to get the spacer too... maybe i'll order that this week...

any imput on the output yokes?

You can order the 32 spline output flange for a 1350 CV from Jesse at HAD. I just bought one in june and it was 99.00 plus tax and shipping.
