700r4 4x4?

i just bought a 1983 k5 blazer and the trans is gone no forward or revese gears, could it be something simple my guess is not, but what year to what year 700r4 can i use in my 83? i got a friend with a 700r4 out of a 89 k1500 truck and he said he would sell me for ($75) he said it ran fine just didnt lock up in OD, maybe replace converter and see if it will lock?

They will interchange up to 92. Make sure the connections are plugged in. My 84 wouldn't lock up either, plug wasn't hooked up.

Your old trans probably eat the front pump that was common for the early 700r4's. As far as the no lockup on your friends 700 r4 I would find out why it is not locking before you pull it because if it is getting up there in miles it would be best to buy his as a core and rebuild it. The one thing that I have seen come through the shop has been the brake light switch goes bad and the are two sections in the brake light switch one for rear brake lights and the other that disenages the tcc when the brake is applied. If you have access to a scanner see if the computer is commanding the tcc to come on when in overdrive and also look to see what the brake light switch is doing. Hopefully like metioned early the wire has just come off the trans or is broke somewhere on the truck.

If you looking for a used trans try and ft one from aan 88 or newer, they seem to have the better parts in them

I dropped a 700r4 into my 76 that had a GM crate 350 in it no problem.

Thanks I got it put it in but still need to hook up the tv cable, I think correct me of I'm wrong but the park safety switch is bad in my k5 sometimes have to play with it to getitto start when in park or what do y'all think?
