I believe that the bolts that screw into the back of the 700R4 are metric. Does anyone know what size they are supposed to be. It is the K case.
I tried a 3/8" bolt and it seemed fine until they got tight and started to strip. TIA

Those four bolts are 10mm x 1.5

Thanks! I live out of town a ways and didn't want to make several trips. I don't have a stash of metric bolts so I wasn't sure. Gotta love the internet. (even dialup)

I was looking at my adapter to 700R4 and it looks like there should be an O-ring for the seal. Is that right? How bout some good ol fashioned silicone? I'm not really that cheap but I'm trying to get this thing together and ordering parts takes time!

Yes there is an O-ring (square one) betweeb the adapter and trans. Some people have used silicone with success but any trans shop will have that O-ring as it is even used with a 2WD tail housing.

Also on the adapter bolts, i can't remember the length that is required but if you measure the thickness of the adapter where the bolt goes through and also the depth of the hole in the trans you will figure it out.

The bolts are approx. 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" depending on your casting. 2 bolts go straight through and 2 are dead ended. Everything else is as stated above. Thanks again.

Now I have yet another question. There is a small tube (approx 1/8") on the top and between the front and the center of the transmission. I assume it is a vent. Mine only sticks out about 3/16" and appears to be broken off. I may be able to stick a fitting in it and extend it with a vent tube. (if it is indead a vent) If I can't, would I be able to pull the pump assembly and get to it with out dissassembling alot of the tranny? I don't remember this vent from my experiences before.

Yes that is a vent and i wouldn't mess with it unless you go through some deep water crossings or mud bogs where water and or mud could get that far up and into the vent.
