Really, I like the factory lock-up controls better. If the internal tranny wiring is stock, all you need is the vac switch on the firewall and the brake switch. I mean, you shouldn't have to send in a speed-related signal electrically, it already has a hydraulic signal from the governor. Whether you have carb or efi, there will be a ported vacuum signal somewhere for the vac switch.
I have used these in instances where I thought the lockup came in too early for the application and lugged the engine, especially in vehicles with aftermarket camshafts and weak vacuum signal where the factory vacuum switch did not do it's job as intended. I have never had a problem with any of the dozen or so units we have installed, but then I never buried the sender in mud so I don't know how well it will last in a nasty wet environment.
This is in a 2 wheel drive truck thats gonna be peerty so the mud shouldnt be an issue. Its a 350 .40 over with a mild cam. I was thinking about running something like this because it wasnt originally an overdrive truck. But I was cleaning it up getting it ready for the motor the other day and found that it does have the 4 prong plug. So now my assumption is that it was a TH350C with the locking converter. This should be the same right? I may give it a go with the factory wiring and go to the aftermarket option if I have an issue... Thats the thought process today anyway
I'm using the B&M unit in my 57 with a 200r and have been very happy with it. We are also building a 85 C10 for my son with a 700r and will be using B&M again.
