I ran my truck in a mud bog last weekend. everything went fine, but when I got home I had a big fluid leak, and a even bigger crack in my np208. So I called a friend of mine and bought his 27 spline np205. I've already figured out that I have to install the shorter th350 tailshaft in my tranny. I was wondering if anyone has done this before, and what kind of problems I might run in to. Someone told me that I might have problems with the front drive shaft hitting the bottom of the tranny pan. Is this true? Are there any other things to look out for? What are the possible fixes

there is a fix... use the $50 spacer instead of the short output shaft. Works like a charm and no trans pan issues at all even with my big HAD cv.

unless you're a trans guru, I wouldn't recommend swapping output shafts... its the very last thing to come out of a tranny.

I'm considering the 700R4/205 combo now myself, especially since I've got a 205 in my garage collecting cobwebs...

1. How long is this spacer?
2. When comparing the overall length of a 700R4/slipyoke 208 to the 700R4/spacer/fixed yoke 205, which wins?
3. Anyone make a combination spacer/clocking ring? Links?

who all makes this spacer. are there any other issues I might have

A little post resurrection...

Still looking for answers to these exciting questions!

I must be mentally defective or something - Google didn't tell me much and neither did searching here. I think it's a problem related to operator error... :doah:

2"

If I had to guess, I'd say the 700/205 is shorter. Its been a looong time since I've had a 208 though. IMO you shouldn't even "go there" unless you are willing to lengthen/shorten your driveshafts or buy custom ones. I just bought some HADs.

3. Anyone make a combination spacer/clocking ring? Links?

no... or if they do they are keeping it very hush hush secret.

Thanks, J - I was beginning to wonder if anyone was listening...
OK, so it's a 2" thick spacer. I'm not having much luck trying to visualize it, so I'm gonna have to find some pics online somewhere, or just wait until I get my truck apart to see how it all goes together.

As far as driveshafts go - with a 52/56 spring swap and an axle swap planned, new driveshafts (probably HAD's) and a T-case e-brake were already in the plan. Thanks for the reminder though.

IIRC, you're running a 700/205 combo - about how much does the case hang below the framerail?
