I smoked my 1986 TH700r4 in my '69 C10. I have a 1989 TH700r4 that I have all ready to swap in, but when I pulled out the older one and put them side by side, there are some major differences. Besides the elec. vs. mech. speedometer, there is no two-wire solenoid on the pass. side on the 1989. Are there ways to convert the newer one to work in a truck that was fitted with the older one? I really don't want to do a full rebuild if I can throw this other one in for the time being.

Its not a solenoid on the side of the tranny, its a 2 wire pressure switch used in part to control the torque converter lockup. When there is pressure it closes, On my 74 it went : 12V to a vacuum switch , to that pressure switch, to the 4 pin connector.

Im not familiar with the 2wd shafts however? :dunno:

www.bowtieoverdrives.com has a torque converter lock-up kit that I use. Works perfect. Locks in 4th only, as soon as it hits 4th. It connects to the driver side plug, one wire, and goes up to the brake switch, then to a 12v source. Inside the pan is a different solenoid you'll need to change out.

you can get the kit in other locations as well, most are the same

So I should be able to take the plug out of that port and install that pressure switch and fix that part? I'll have to look harder at the shaft to see if I can use my manual speedometer.
