I've notice that my 700R4 transmission is not downshifting like it should. Like for example, when you go to pass another car on the road, and you press down on the accelerator you expect to drop down 2 or in rare occasions 3 gears to make an aggressive pass. I've notice my trans is only down shifting one gear. I've adjusted my tv cable to be fully pulled out when my throttle cable is WOT. So, what am I missing here? My trans was professionally rebuilt about a year ago, and I keep my fluid level checked. I have a great external cooler with fan, and the trans does not make any weird noises. I'm at a loss here... any suggestions? :dunno:

A lot of variables in play here. First thing, have someone hold the accelerator pedal to the floor in the cab while you confirm that you are getting wide open throttle at the carb. If you are in fact getting wide open throttle the cable should be as tight as it can possibly be. If you have a lot of gear and not a very tall tire, the governor could be preventing a downshift, you may need to have it recalibrated. The primary spring on the tv valve may be too short or the seconday tv valve may not be fully stroking to the base of the bore. In addition, the builder may have modified the TV line up with a different valve/sleeve or aftermarket secondary tv valve. There is no easy answer but start with the fundamentals and work your way through it till you get the desired result.

To clarify a little of what Greg said:
Sometimes when you use the accelerator pedal, the throttle does not go as far as when you do it by hand under the hood.

So, you might not be setting it like you think you are.

I had a buddy press the accelerator to the floor while I was under the hood, so WOT has been verified. It still does not downshift like I said.

you said it was rebuilt over a year ago...is this new behavior, or has it done this since it was refreshed?
