Hi guys. I have troubles with my rebuilded 700r4. It excellent does 1-2 shift, but instead 2-3 shift it drops into 1nd gear. So i have only 1st and 2nd gears. Line pressure just fine, TV cables adjusted properly.

any suggestions?

Thanks

how long a go rebuilt?what does the fluid look like?correct fluid used?fluid level correct?all wiring put back in correctly?have you pulled the pan to see if there is metal in it?
i found this for adjusting tv cable correctly.maybe you should recheck and just make sure it hasnt moved.if it is too tight it will hold the gearlonger than nessessary or not shift down to od at all.

a. Adjustments are made with the engine off. Locate the Adjust Tab on the cable housing. Press in the tab and push the slider.

b. Release the tab and rotate the throttle lever to WOT and the cable will self adjust itself as evidenced by a few audible clicks. Release the throttle lever and check the cable for any signs of binding or sticking. After you have released the lever, make sure there is no slack in the cable.

. Road test the vehicle. Under moderate acceleration your shift points should be close to the following:

1-2…………………20 MPH
2-3…………………28-32 MPH
3-4…………………42-45 MPH
If the cable is adjusted too loosely your transmission will exhibit soft, stacked shifts (not spread out). DO NOT CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENS!

Immediately readjust cable. Tighten the cable to firm up the shifts and spread out the shift points. Loosen the cable if the transmission is shifting too late. Repeat Step 4, section C.

It happens after rebuilding. Fluid looks like new, level in the middle of crosshatched area on dipstick, wiring seems to be ok. I have pulled out pan, but found no metal in it.

I adjusting cable exactly by this way. It not tight in idle and have no lack in WOT. After adjusting i have check pressures according to ATSG - all pressures (park,drive,revers,od,2,1) are ok.

Thanks for reply

Is this the first time driven since rebuild? Did you rebuild? Warranty? Are you sure your selector is engaging the drive gear and not just 2nd? Check for PRND321 gearing with and without the engine runnin and brake depressed. Sorry but sometimes the easiest explanation is also the best.

if a seal was not installed correctly,or something is stuck in the valve body,it will also not shift correctly due to pressure loss and not having the fluid going through correctly.maybe torque converter not pushing enough fluid.but you said you checked that also for line pressure.if there is a warrantee i would take it back and let them figure out what went wrong.if you rebuilt it,you may have to go back through it and figure out what is stuck in there not letting it go to drive and od.
