700R4 Guru\'s needed... 90 1500 WT 4x2 ***$20 REWARD***

Ok... I've got a truck that I put a 4.3L motor into, along with a new 700R4 trans. The whole combo ran great for about 2 weeks before it started an odd habit. EVERYTHING is new. The only thing that hasn't been replaced are the injectors.

Seems that once the truck warms up on the highway, and you hit some traffic and have to slow down - the truck stalls out around 5-15mph. Slap it in neutral, and crank it, and it fires RIGHT back up. After restarting, its still a little rough at low speeds, but once you get back over 35mph it runs like a charm. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif It almost feels like the motor is bogging out. Its obviously held down at low RPMs, but the truck has no tach, so its hard to say exactly.

The guy I am trying to help here has spent over $1000 troubleshooting this problem. You find the answer to this, and it fixes it, I'll PAYPAL you $20! Honest to God. I need this fixed.

PLEASE HELP!

-Dan

I've got the answer, but it'll cost you $50.

Make sure that the ECM is seeing the park/neutral input correctly. If it thinks the tranny is in park all the time, it uses different parameters for the idle control.

How would I check for that? Reverse lights work... what else would there be? Is that controlled thru the 4-wire connection at the trans? /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I suspect the EGR or the IACM. It's going into the limp home mode after dying, hence the rough running after starting back up. my guess is that you don't have a check engine light installed. Just an educated guess after putting a 4.3 and 700r4 in my toy.

The EGR is new, but the IAC is original. Is there a way to install the EGR specifically? Is there a way to test the IAC motor? How can I verify that the EGR is installed correctly? You may just be on to something there...

Dan, just by chance, is the lockup conv unlocking? This is a prob on other GM vehicles but not usually on the 700R4. Mom's Buick would die everytime she came home from work and got off the hwy. It would die getting to the 1st stop light. Lockup conv solenoid internal to the trans was the fault. Just a possibility. Good luck.

READ THIS which describes the problem the truck is having to the TEE, and also tells EXACTLY how to fix the problem. Looks like I will be getting my hands into this trans sometime soon. Todd, if this article is right... looks like you have the $20! I'll keep everyone posted after the work is completed. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks!

BTW - just to set the record straight... Tyler was up until 11pm with me last night searching the internet looking for the solution. The URL that I linked to was one that HE found for me... He really walked me though the problem last night and did the searching that found the right website in the end...

Looks like we may have to have a jello-wrestle off between Todd and Tyler for the $20!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif Props out to Tyler, who swears by the SM465 - for figuring out the problem with this GAWD AWEFUL 700R4! Funny how the standard trans guy figures this stuff out so quick when he doesn't even LIKE the damn things... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If I had to put another $20 down... I would bet that both fellers probably have a set of knockers!!! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
