I have a 700r4 in my 90 burb (350 tbi motor) and it seems to be stuck in first gear. Goes I to reverse smooth and drives fine. Drop her in drive and slams pretty hard but will drive and doesn't seem to slip or anything. I not sure what to do. The tv cable is hooked up and adjusted correctly and the governor appears to be good? Any suggestions or anyone want to come and take a look at it lol?

Have you dropped the pan to look?

The TV could be stuck in the valve body, so the shift to 2nd gear would be at max rpm and line pressure would be maxed (explaining the hard shifting). If it is trying to shift to 2nd, but doesn't, that could be a bad servo, an internal leak or valve body problem. You could put a pressure switch (or gauge) on the 2nd gear test port to determine whether it wants to shift or not. You could also put a gauge on the main pressure port and see if pulling the TV cable changes pressure or not.

Some report success freeing the TV by snapping the cable a few times. If it is stuck and that doesn't work, the valve body must be pulled to free it with a pick or something.

Okay well I will try to snap it a few times and see what it does. I don't have much knowledge on automatic transmissions so I'm hoping the valve body and stuff doesn't have to be dropped. I know the fluid is on the worn side.

You have verified the governor gear is good, right? You can actually unhook the tv cable, grab the little metal end piece with a set of pliers and give it half a dozen good tugs. The valve is meant to be self cleaning and if stuck could free itself this way. After that go with Blue's advice and get forensic on that thing

Ahhh welcome to ck5 Ryan. Get ready to spend lots more money on the burb :D

I will head over to where it's at tomorrow and look at that tv cable again. But from what I can tell the governor appears to be good. No broken springs or anything but I was told that when you press and release the "wings" of it there should be another part moving do I will check that too. But yea money is just something the Burban will never stop getting lol.
