Lots of issues. Not worth the swap...

:D Yes it can be done. If you can get the x-members for the 700/208 combo, it'd probably make your life easier. Another thing you might have to worry about is the rear driveshaft...if I'm not mistaken, the 700/208 combo adds a few inches. Other than that, I can't think of any issues that would make this an impossible swap...oh maybe the PROPER TV cable adjustment. You want to talk about issues...try swapping in a 700R4 with a 203-LoMax that have been clocked :eek1:

I have heard of people moving the engine forward to make it fit without changing the driveshaft lengths.

I did that.
You may have cooling issues if you run a stock fan and shroud.
Moving things forward moves the fan deeper into the shroud...this "may" effect cooling but I'm not sure as I went with electric fans when I swapped in the 700.

No drive line mods as I never moved the Transfer case(NP205)

Had to change the output shaft of the 700R4 to mate to the 27 spline input shaft of the NP205.

Other criticle issue is the set-up of the TV cable that runs from the carb to the trans.
If it's not set-up correctly you'll burn up the trans pretty quick.
It's not a down shift cable like in a TH350,on a 700 it controls line pressure's.

Hope so, cause I'm doing the same thing for mine.

Gonna install the entire drive-train from the 90 blazer I parted out into my 71.
*TBI 350/241/700r with 4:10 gears.

So get to it so I can see how it's done. :smirk:

Maybe you should update your truck list in your .sig to help the rest of us keep your "collection" straight! :D

Excellent reference info !

Can a 700r4 be built to handle over 400FT/LBS of torque?

I'm thinking of a Ram Jet350/700r4 swap into my '72 Blazer.

of course. anything is possible. the guy I got my 700R4 from said he had it built up to ~500 hp. we'll see how much of that is true once I drop it into my Blazer & ride the hell out of it. :haha: It's possible...just going to pay a bit more $. Why not just run a 4500?

when i stuck my 465/208 combo in my 72 with 8" lift the driveline was bound just sitting there i think they are the same length give or take an inch.

On a side note I do have a 3/4ton driveline with new ujoints shortend to 28" with slip yoke if your interested pm me
