Well after i thought i had smoked this trans i ended up being able to save it. Before i nearly smoked it and ever since i bought the truck it will not downshift unless your coming to a stop or sometimes intermitently on the highway. i have already adjusted the cable to the max and still nothing. i think its relavent to mention that some hack rebuilt this tranny 5,000 miles ago and his handy work is why i nearly smoked the clutches on the trail this weekend. just wondering if there is some kind failure prone to these trucks with 700r4 and quadraturds. any help is appreciated.:dunno:

700R4's use a TV cable (throttle valve) which changes the line pressure within the trans. If the cable isn't "Set" correctly you will burn up the trans in very short order. This cable is not "adjusted" like you do with a TH350 trans.

as Scott mentioned, it is NOT an adjustment... play with the tv cable and you WILL nuke the tranny.. it is "setting it"...

depress the "D" on the cable at the bracket, slide the cable fully towards the firewall, release, then depress the throttle fully.. this will "click" the cable cable out a couple clicks..

read this, then read it again...

Correct me if I'm wrong. But sounds like you need to adjust the TV cable as stated above. Then leave it. Get a govenor calibration kit, then go through the adjustments that come with it. About $35.00 from summit.

thanks for all the help guys. now i can pass people on the freeway. and with a 305 i was really missin my my kickdown power.

After reading and rereading the bto link i'm freaked out since my tv cable has been disconnected since i swapped carbs a few months back. it didn't really say anything about bieng able to trick the tranny. could you set the cable so the trans is at full line pressure or would that just be asking for trouble. As it sets now upshifts are nice and firm and i've been manually downshifting when the need arises
