Just got my 700r4 out of the Blazer. It ran fine before I dropped it.

The passenger side of the 700r4 was covered in oil soaked gunk and
the front of the transfer case and crossmember were coated in oil. The 700r4 oil level seemed fine. The fluid is a nice red color and seems almost new.

The top of the bell housing was dry, the back of the engine was dry, the torque converter was dry, the oil pan had some residue but not bad. The rubber grommet for the dipstick wax somewhat dry and cracked. The throttle cable seemed fine but it was covered in oil but it is in the middle of the affected area. The lines were not leaking.

Any common issues with this?

Maybe it was just spillage from when fluid was added in the past ?..
Possible it may have burped some out if it was a bit too full or overheated too..

When an auto trans sits, the convertor will drain back slowly, causing the pan to overfill inside raising the fluid level and possibly weep out a seal. Mine is always the shift shaft seal when sitting for several weeks. Could be the tv cable grommet or the dipstick tube grommet or the TCC wiring grommet.

It's always something. I will definitely replace any seals and grommets. I'll get it cleaned up ready to go.
