Buddy of mine has a 63 CJ5 with a Buick 3.8 and TH350..He wants to go to a 700R4 for the OD. Im assuming the trans will bolt up to the 3.8 fine right? Is the 700 any longer than a 350? Thanks

he will need a 700r4 from a 2.5 or 2.8. the 3.8 uses the same boltpattern as these, NOT the 4.3 and V8. the 700r4 is i think 4" longer than the th350, it might me 3.5".

Dunno about the fitment issues w/ the engine & bellhousing but I do know that the 700r4 is 1.75" longer than a th350

It is actually 1 7/8" longer to be exact. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

woops i was way off. /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

i went to tci's site and their measurements are 1.75 different, 700r4 being longer

3.8 is 60 degree, v8 and straight 6 and 305 v6 are 90- degree,

700r4 is same length as th350 if are both 4x4 and if the th350 is longtail 2wd

short tail 2wd th350 is 3" shorter than 700r4 just like thm200c and thm2004r and etc,.

also theres a 12" tail th350 found in mid late 70s wagons,

th350 longtail 2wd 9" tail is 31 11/16" overall and shorttail 2wd th50 is 3" shorter and 700r4 is same length as the 31 11/16" one

give or take a 1/16" or so on any of them

since when does tailshaft matter on a 4x4? I dont know what all that spew was about, but the fact of the matter is that a 700r4 is 1-3/4" longer than a th350, period. Not 1-7/8. Not 3". Not 3-11/16, Not 12", not 9" etc etc. Dont want to start an arguement over 1/8" (wouldnt be the first time) but Ive personally measured and drilled new holes and its 1.75" exactly
