Is it possible to mate the 2 together? I searched for an adapter but didn't have much luck. Got an SM465 and NP205 combo out of a late 70's K20 and have the combo in my 81' k10 but am about to switch the engine into my 86' K5 I am restoring. I would like to put the NP205 since the things a tank, but don't really want to go through the hassle of putting in the SM465, as much as I love the manual.

you need a 205 from a 350, then i used the output shaft from advanced adapters, no spacer.
afaik the 400/465 spline in is different

Dont change shafts, I head since it is a shorter length that it will give you front driveshaft to tranny pan clearance problems.

You need a TH350 version of the 205. This is the 27 spline version. Both the TH350 and the 700 R4 share this spline count.

You do NOT want to use the short AA shaft. If you search you will find that this combination will cause your front drive shaft to hit your tranny pan.

I am currently selling a TH350 205 that has the fixed rear output, a HD32 spline front output (not installed) shifter, drive sleeve, and adaptor in the for sale section. I am also including the spacer needed to take up the longer 700 output shaft. This makes the 205 a direct bolt in to the 700R4.

agreed, go with the spacer. The only time I wouldn't use the spacer is if I already had my 700R4 apart for a rebuild anyway (or was going to have someone build one) and I planned on running a doubler. That'd solve the tranny pan / shaft clearance issue...

Which is exactly why I had to go with the doubler after installing my 700r4 and putting the NP205 back into place. No tranny pan clearance so now it's doubler time.

I thought there was a place that made adapters for this??? anyonf know of it? it was in one of the offroad mags. mike

Thanks guys, this project is still a ways out, I knew there had to be a way to mate them, the guys over at Chevy Talk weren't sure, I'm glad I joined!

Which adapter are you talking about? There are basically two ways of mating up a 205 to a 700r4. Both involve adapters in a way. One is a modified output shaft made by Advance Adapters. This shortens the output shaft which allows you to bolt up the NP205 with a stock NP205 mount. The other way is a spacer that goes in between the mount and the end of the tranny to accomodate the length of the stock output shaft. If you get the short shaft, your NP205 sits very close to the tranny. This puts your front TC output very close to the tranny pan. The only driveshafts you can then run are a stock 1310 CV, which is still within an inch or less of the pan, or a non-CV joint. If you go with the spacer, it moves the front TC output back just enough that you can usually then run a 1350 CV joint up front, and it keeps your front angles somewhat reasonable. The doubler setup moves the front TC output quite a ways back and removes all clearance problems completely.

you need a spacer like this . but it goes along with the stock 205 tcase adaptor and all fits togetor.

note: this is not the exact spacer just a pic to get a idea. this was made for 4l80-e to 205 case 400 setup.

there is actualy a stock adapter, the 700/205 was a fleat only order in the 80s, my buddy has seen them on a local hydro truck!!!
