700r4 no reverse

I'm helping out a guy at work with his '85 blazer. His 700 has no reverse, neutral is hard to find, and it seams to slip in all the forward gears. Is this a linkage thing or does this need a rebuild? I'm not the best with autos so I need some advice.

Reverse input drum is toast, in spite of the name it is responsible for all forward motion also. It's cooked.

Is there such a thing as a long and short shaft 700r4? Local junkyard says he has a k5 but it has a long shaft 700. I was thinking maybe it was the two wheel drive version of the 700. Guy at the junkyard was fairly hard to understand, not technically hard to understand, i think he is just missing to many teeth to be comprehensible.

yes the 2wd ones have a longer output shaft. you can use the parts in yours to convert it.
