I pulled a perfectly good working rebuilt trans out of my old gas '88 blazer and kept if for my diesel '82 blazer.
Now I know that the torque converter and governor are different. The converter would not interchange. The input shaft was different, so I will have to deal with a gas converter. I drove it and it does not seem to be an issue.
I swapped the governor, and it looked like the spring was the only difference.
Drove down the road, trans won't shift.
Could I have messed something up swapping the governor?
Can a governor go bad? The old trans was toast.

ok, back to my other reply in your other post, since it is a 700R4 did you SET the TV cable properly? If not DO NOT under any circumstance try to continue driving the vehicle unless you want to be swapping out a bad trans. Pretty much as long as the gear on the governor isn't missing teeth the trans will shift regardless of if it is a governor for a gas or diesel just that the wrong governor will make the trans shift really late.

You DO NOT adjust a TV cable, you SET them. There is only one place it belongs and that is by SETTING it.

but you have to ADJUST the little snappy thing at the intake, to SET the line pressure correctly.. :p:

just goofin with ya :D

How about if we say.....Adjust it to the correct Setting......

Well, i swapped the TV cable so that it stayed with the truck it came from. Looked ok. How do I set it?
I had a 700r4 once that had the TV cable DISCONNECTED, and it still upshifted. Didn't downshift, but it did more than this thing is doing.

You sure it drove? Man if the TV pressure is too low these transmissions are nearly undriveable.

I just did a manifold swap and had to re-set the TV on my 91. Most shops will put a gauge on there to measure line pressure, but I just got a decent baseline, drove gingerly until I felt like the TV was adjusted right.

Sure did. It drove great, just did not downshift. Drove it that way for months. It was that way when I bought it. One day I was doing a tune up and noticed a little cable not connected. Figured it might be for the cruise control or something. I don't know much about CC because I never use it. Just for the hell of it I hooked it up anyways and Viola! Trans downshifts like it is supposed to.
