700r4/NP205 front driveshaft woes....aaaaagh!!

dcp_0968.jpg

the only thing that would be in the way is the accumulator (round aluminum thing in the corner) other than that, theres really nothing in the weight.

i have a 700r4 tore apart here, ill check to see how much room there is between the pan and the accumulator in the morning.

I think that round gizmo is going to be the problem. I had thought of angling the side in but that thing would get in the way. Even wacking it with a mallet would only get me about an 8th of an inch at best before hitting that. Clocking the TC would cause headaches with the side mount and the exhaust pipe.

bah, exhaust is cheap. ;) besides, I dont see any good free options....

Had the same setup in a 72 blazer. The 1310 cv will just clear. I ran that for several years, broke a 30 spline dana 60 stub without hurting the driveshaft. Upgraded to 35 spline then broke the cv. Tried to install an atlass II, no way for the drive shaft to clear the tranny pan at all. Sold it and did a 203 205 doubler now have tons of room for the 1350cv.

How did you deal with the TC case levers on the doubler setup? As it is, I had to bend my lever to get it back into the stock hole.

clock ring will only work with a round pattern onit if thats what he has.most 205s we use i think are the 8 pattern.

When I first had the 700r4 and the 205 I just cut the shifter hole back about 1 1/2" and everything cleared. With the doubler I ordered the triple stick shifter from ORD. They asked which adapter I had for the 700r4 and made the linkage to fit that length. The shifter for the 203 fit in the original hole. The twin stick for the 205 is off to the side a little bit so I had to enlarge the side of the trans tunnel. The ultimate UAV has an article on the doubler install. About 3/4 of the way down they have a picture of the triple stick, they also have a picture of the twin stick about half way down.

Before the doubler I just used the stock 1310 cv shaft lengthend 2" with the 205 and never had any issues with trans pan clearance. The only difference might be if you have the cv flange on the front output. I had the cv yolk.

I have an Atlas II on my th400 with the 1.25" adapter. At an 11* clock (from flat) my HAD 1350cv cleared. Now, since I broke the 1350 cv, I am steeping up to the 42* 1410 cv and going to a 4* clock (I love the adjustability of the Atlas). Even with that, I have to mod the pan for clearance. It is a cheap solution compared to my alternative of of getting a new adapter and tearing the trans down to put in a longer output.

I feel your pain even though my combo is different than yours. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
