700r4/np208 vs sm465/np205

I found an sm465 local for 200 bucks.
Its a friend of my dads and he's pretty trustworthy.

I just need to know if:
1) my np208 will bolt up to the 465
2) if i will need new drive shafts.

And its a non hydro clutch, how bad is it going to be?
I never drive in traffic, and i ride bikes so i've got some fairly strong legs.

He has a hydro one but i was trying to avoid the extra work.
 
go hydro it actually simplifies the conversion.

You will gain a significant amount of strength but you will need to modify quite a bit. You will need:

- new front and rear drive lines
- manual trans crossmember
- new pedal assembly
- cut a hole/holes in trans tunnel
- knock out hole in firewall for hydraulic ram

In my opinion it's a worth while conversion to gain the bullet proof sm465 and the granny gear and the equally bullet proof np205 which can be twin-sticked and handles major abuse.

Good luck, when I converter from a th350/full tim np203 it was a bunch of work but all worth it in the end.
 
Go with the hydraulic one. It is a fairly simple swap. You will be much happier with the SM465 over an auto when you are done. You really don't need a strong leg with the hydraulic clutch, it has very little resistance. Also, one you get going , you don't use the clutch that much.

I also did a 1985 K10 where I did the same swap, but with a manual clutch. If I get the ambition, I am going to do my 1985 K5 Blazer this summer as well.

I should also note, that if you can find an SM465/NP208 factory combo, you can swap it in place of a TH700R4/NP208 combo, and reuse your factory driveshafts.
