I'm picking up a used 203/205 ord doubler and would like to mate it to my 700r4 tranny. I was reading on ord's web site that you have to change out the output shaft and redrill the mounting holes and tap them to be metric.

Do I have to replace the output shaft or can I just cut the factory to the correct size?

For all that have done this setup how hard was it to get it all to fit and what do you think of the setup.

the output shaft has to be changed out...what i'm going to try, i've searched even on pirate, is to get a 208 adaptor and tap & drill the 203 face to use the 208 adaptor so that i won't have to change out the output shaft. there's guys that say they've done this, but i have yet to find a post or write up with details. but i'm gonna give it a try. the output shaft is going to run you about 180 new.....FYI

EDIT: if you precisely cut the output shaft, it may work...

I finally got my 205 to go along with the 203 that I picked up from MrK5. I had planned on doing the same setup soon. From what I read, you can either replace the output shaft, or redrill and tap the 203 to fit with the stock 208 adapter if your 203 is a Th350 version. I havent actually put mine together yet. Since I still have to get the actual doubler.:doah: Hopefully I'll have it within the month.

The easiest way is to have a TH350/203 adapter and the 2" spacer and use the stock 700R4 as is and no re-drilling required. The 700R4 has metric threads in the case where the adapter bolts up so just reuse those bolts when bolting the TH350/203 adapter up and you're all set.

Now that sounds like the way to go.:D I'll have to look into going that route. Anyone have any pics of the adapter/spacer setup?

yea you can just swap in the 2 inch spacer in there and run a th350 203 behind your 700r4. When I got my truck it had a 350/203, i swapped in a 700r4 and used the 2 inch spacer to make the 203 work. my only rant is that I have taken the truck back 2 times already because of a leak coming from the seal between the spacer and t-case, I am taking it back in this week for the same thing again

Nothing like shortening your rear shaft even more......hope you don't have a lot of lift.

I think you oughta go back to your original plan and run a TH350. :dunno:

I use the spacer on my rig and have no leaks at all. I have heard of leaks from people that haven't shaved the 700r4 output shaft down an 1/8 of an inch though. When I got mine a couple of years back there was some threads on ck5 about it. All I had to do was hack saw the beveled edge off the shaft then sand down the shaft to make a new thinner smaller beveled edge (basically a heavy debur). the spacer was an 1/8 inch off from being exactly correct for the install. If not done the output shaft enters to far into the input shaft of the np-203 (making a bad seal and more load on the bearings of the np-203). Just my 2 cents, may not sound right to some but it works.:D
at the end of the spacer thread someone mentions it but they say 1/4" and no one answered them back. I would stick with 1/8".
