Ok so i'll be updating this thread as I go. I work out of town and when I get home on my days off (wed/thurs) I work on this so that's when i'll be updating it.

I pulled the tranny last week and seperated the xfercase from the tranny.

Today I powerwashed the tranny and got it pulled apart. Tomorrow i'll get the subassemblies apart and pics of some of all the components. Today I slacked quite a bit on pics because if you've ever done one of these you know how messy it can be and I didn't feel like washing my hands every 10 minutes to snap pics so i'll make it a point tomorrow to snap a few more.

History: A few months back I bought this for my brother's HS graduation gift from a friend of a friend who stopped driving it after the tranny started making noise. I trailered it home and when I arrived I could smell the bad gas from the cab of my truck. Turns out the gas tank had some holes in it so before doing anything to the truck I ordered a gas tank, fuel pump and sending unit as well as a throttle body rebuild kit from RockAuto. After installing those items (also cleaned fuel lines the best I could with carb cleaner and compressed air) I managed to get it started. Immeadiately I heard the problem, a loud tapping from the front of the tranny. I drove it and could get it to move forward and backward but not shift. I pulled the governor and it wasn't working properly so I grabbed an extra from a friend and it would randomly stift but not consistently so at that point I pulled it and that's where i'm at now basically.

The first pic shows the truck. 1987 K5, 4" lift, 35 BFG MT's, stock gears.

What caused the noise: broken torque converter, the rest was wedged in the front pump.

That's it for now i'll try to take more pics tomorrow and there will be another update next week as well.

Nope bone stock. I have to have it done in a month so he can drive it to Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX. Once he finished school we can talk about upgrades when it's on his dime and he's got a job. Until then it's just transportation.

I rebuilt my 700r4 about a month ago.......and took some pics of the process.....so if your camera craps out on ya or you forget to take a pic of something, I'll be more than happy to share. :waytogo:

Do you have a link to that thread??

some upgrades it can really use are the pump, 3-4 clutch pack (gm had an industrial pack that had a couple more frictions and steels in it), servo.
