so i blew my old 700r4 and bought a used 700 with a reverse manual valve body in it, other then that, its stock. and i have no TC lock up wired up to it, and the first night i had it in, i put it in 4th going down the highway and in about 2 miles it overheated and boiled over everywhere. can someone tell me y? i never had a lock up wired in my old tranny either and that was fine for a very long time. ive been driving it without 4th gear for about 6 months now with no problems at all. i really want 4th so i can put in my 5.13s and detroit that have been teasing me in my room.

the only difference i can think of is that my tranny that is in there now is a constant pressure valve body and my old one that lasted forever wasnt.

No lock-up means overheat. I can't say why your old trans didn't overheat without lock-up working but there are a few different ways to wire up the lock-up and there is also an option to eliminate lock-up but that requires a different torque convertor IIRC.

You can set it up for non-lockup...IIRC you have to modify the pump. And run a non-lockup converter. I've got a 700R4 in my 88 Camaro. 400SBC, no lockup since the rebuild. Over 30,000miles with lots of drag strip passes. Never had an issue.
