I have a problem with my 700r4. The problem is that it doesn't shift at the correct rpm. It doesn't slip at all though. No matter where I have the kickdown cable adjusted. I took the valve body off and looked at it. Everything seemed fine. I noticed that the valve that connects to the kickdown cable has alot of play. Also the fluid isn't burned. Any help would be great. I kind of don't want to rebuild it if it is an easy fix. Thanks Year of tranny is 1992.
 
700r4's dont have a kickdown cable. they have a T.V cable that is very picky about being adjusted correct. you need a pressure guage on the pressure port to get it set up right. The trannys dont last to long with the cable out of adjustment.
 
I have the tv cable adjusted correctly b4 and now. But it still won't shift normal. I installed the tranny in 2001. It has around 95k miles on it.
 
I did the rebuild. Put back in and filled with fluid. Put it in reverse and nothing. Put it into 1 2 and 3 and it goes into gear, but slips. Put it into overdrive and nothing. So I took the pump out, and doing so I found that the aux valvebody was loose. I also remember not putting the second ring into the pump. After fixing those probs, I put the tranny back together, filled with fluid and presto, a fresh new rebuilt 700r4. Very big grin.

Glad you got it fixed. I lost my pc at home (hard-drive) so I'm not on AOL IM anymore (they don't allow it at work). I checked with my tranny guy anyways and he was more than you were looking at elsewhere to rebuild :doah:

Glad it worked out for you. FYI I did find two 2x4 700's if you know anyone looking, but was unable to locate 4x4 700's in the area.
 
The rebuild was very easy. It only took me about 2 hours to rebuild. Not much different from a th350. The hardest part was removing it. The tranny shifts much smoother and it feels like I have more power.
 
the problem here is that its a 700r4.... those things suck! i have one in my daily driver pickup and even though theres nothing wrong with it, i hate that damn thing... the 700r4 is the work of the devil!
 
i find it very hard to believe that you rebuilt a 700r4 in two hours. but maybe you are a auto tranny tech. replacing all the lip seals and checking the function of the lip seals took me at least 2 hours. i had to buy 4 lip seals for the forward clutch before i got it together and sealed properly. i also put the reverse boost valve in backwards in the pump which left me with a slipping tranny and no reverse. was easier to rebuild the second time.

i agree, ive rebuilt alot of them, and my fastest one was 6 hours. there is ALOT of things to check for clearances and proper movement to make it last.
