ive owened this k5 Blazer for almost 10 yrs. When i bought the truck it was in bad shape. The 5.7 l engine had a cracked block.Rust Galore.I swapped out the engine from another 87 k5 i found junked.
I rebuilt the top end of the engine and at time i put a plastic radiator from a late model chevy pickup.Bad move. 3 Yrs later blew the heads. Got disgusted, decided to fnally restore it.. Bought a High Compression Gm 5.7 L 4 BOLT MAIN Crate Motor,New Floors.Complete everything from Lmc,Brothers and Classic Chevy,Por15,Etc..Cost me Almost 10k for everything work included.Trucks like new.No Rust at all.Primed Black for now. Never Touched Tranny.Never had a problem. I did put in a New Tv Cable and Throttle Cable.Hasnt been a Year since i got truck back and now the Truck wont come out of 1st gear.Feels like its in low 1st gear.I reset the Tv cable and its good for 2-3 days then same thing again.Fluid looks good.Never touched tranny since i had truck almost 10+ years.Im gonna try changing the fluild Filter and gasket.. Has anybody experienced anything similair. I would sincerely appreciate any help i can get..Thx MM

First thing to check is to make sure your cable is working properly. When you set it, the cable should be maxed out at full throttle. I'd readjust it and then when the problem arises, check the tension. If it isn't where you set it, it means the cable isn't holding tension, so you'll need to check the installation and check the condition of the cable.

Don't drive it extensively when it isn't acting right, you risk smoking the tranny. Usually, a cable that is too loose will cause premature or stacked shifts (low line pressure), whereas a cable that is too tight will cause delayed and hard shifts. You could potentially have a solenoid or valve body problem, but focus on the easy stuff first, since it seems like your symptoms are related to cable adjustment.

And unless you are low on fluid, pretty much impossible for a fluid/filter change to help anything. If fluid is burnt, or there is enough junk to clog up the factory filter, trans needs R&R.

Wait until you've eliminated external problems, as you'll have to drop the pan to get at anything internal anyway, save the fluid for then.

I changed Fluid and filter. Was curious to see what it looked like under there after 10 years never touched it and wondered whoever had it before me what they did. Low and behold super clean! No shavings. Fluid looked good. Filter a bit clogged but inside the tranny like new. Installed filter, Gasket, 5 qts of penzoil atf, reset the Tv cable and sweet! Hope all stays good. Is 5 qts enough. It was a bit low with 4. I'm gonna recheck it when I drive 10 miles home from work. Thx for everything. By far the best K5 Blazer Site I've seen yet!!

The #1 thing to start sticking in a 700 when there is some crud in it is the innermost section of the TV. When you press the throttle it pushes forward and sticks. There is only hydraulic pressure to return it, so it's otherwise floating in there. So when you let off the throttle to make it shift, the tranny thinks you're still on the throttle. They especially like to do it when it's cold.

A sticking servo is less likely. Could also be the governor gear going bad. That's easy to pull out and check.
