700r4 question

as far as tranys go im only familiar with th350's and th400's, but what the hell is a 700r4? can i put a t-case from a 700r4 on a th400? sorry if thats a stupid question. thanks guys.

700r is 4speed auto w/ Over drive.

TH350 has a 27 spline output, TH400 has a 32 spline output, and a 700R4 has a 27 spline output. You cannot put a t-case from a 700R4 behind a TH400 without changing the input gear on the t-case.

Well technically any factory case will bolt to a th400 . You just need to use the correct transmission adapter for the th400 and the case you want to use , and change the input of the transfercase to 32 spline if its not .

th350 and 700r4 = 27 spline in output and input on transfercase .
newer sm465 ( late 70's and newer ) and all th400 = 32 spline in output and input on transfercase .
