700r4 question.

More or less a valve body swap, some suppliers also incorporate a couple of pump mods and sometimes a servo. All bolt in with trans installed in vehicle. Still, it is a lot to give up to avoid setting a tv cable unless you crave constant shifting and extreme shifts.

I did a full manual reverse valve body swap once on a v8 s10, It was great as a weekend cruiser and drag racer but when I would have to use it to commute to work bc my other vehicle was down it wasn't very pleasant to live with. I found shifting it to be really annoying and less pleasant than either a manual trans or regular automatic.

My K10 has a 700r4/4l70 hybrid trans, 700 style TV cable valve body and K case with 4l70 hard parts, wide bands and custom clutch packs. Corvette servos for a mildly firmer shift and a torque convertor that stalls just shy of 2k (that was an accident, I was trying to hit about 1750 using off the shelf parts and missed). It's a fantastic trans, but I don't think I would ever do it all again on a TV style valve body. The computer controlled newer trans are a better starting point, I think next will be a 6.0/6l80e combo for me.

Would a non locking 3 speed be any better than the 3 speeds you currently have?

well yeah, if the 700 dies. The 3 speed is a th 400.

This is the diesel burb, right? That's an unhappy amount of speed for cruising around with a 6.2.

No, that one has been parked for the past couple of years. That's where the 400 is. I know all about a screaming 6.2 though! Made my ears bleed at 70 mph with 3:73's....

I need a second opinion to make sure I've got the right switch. The 4th gear pressure switch is the one in the lower right with the red connector on it, yes? That's the one I need to replace? (Not my tranny, inter web photo)

Yes sir, remove it, (you may need to carefully use some channel locks if you don't have the proper tool). Once the switch is out, use a rubber tipped blow gun to shoot a bit of air into the threaded end and see if it doesn't blow through the plastic body of the switch. There is a small bleed hole in some of these so don't point the switch towards yourself.

alrighty then, a new switch is on the way, and I have a new t.v. cable in hand. Just need to get a new filter, gasket, and some fluid to get it done....

IDK, I'm waiting for the new part so I only have to go in there once. It is my dd.

Dang, that was fast! Switch arrived today, wasn't suppose to be here 'till Monday...:thumb:

yep...used atf shower in the a.m., followed by a hot water & FAST orange cleaner shower afterwards....

Yes, you can even buy it in 5 gallon buckets :whistle2:

Dawn dishwasing liquid works well to remove a "Dextron shampoo"..
If its safe for baby ducks in an oil slick, its good enough for us grease monkeys, right ?..:D..
I use it in the shower often when I get "oiled" ,it also kills that stench of old gear oil pretty good too...

about the 400 swap behind a diesel. my first 6.2 had the 400, then the subsequent ones had 700r4s. It was enough time between the two transmissions that when I got the current burb with a '400 I remembered something. the 700r4 has a FAR better 1st gear for the diesel then the turbo 400. The other bit is, once you lift and put a reasonable sized tire on it, overdrive becomes an LOL - you don't get better economy but you do get the opportunity to burn up the trans if it holds in 4th gear under load... my 2 cents.

and please, no pictures of the ATF shower.... ewww, just ewww.
