So my transmission went out and im looking to rebuild it. It is for my 90 blazer which is used as a DD as well as 4x4ing of course. it has a 350 and 4.56 gears. I would like to build a pretty built prof trans. It will be my first rebuild but im pretty confident i can do it.

I was thinking of just buying one of these kits from monster trans. since it is supposed to include everything needed except for tools and acc. of course.

Is this kit good enough or should i purchase the larger kit? How is the shifting performance in either kit? im afraid it will be to rough for a DD?

Any other recommendation or advice are welcome? or other kits?

I want to do this once and do it right. thanks

That is an awesome site but i think it is over my head lol! I wouldn't know what to order and there is no pricing. But it defiantly looks like a useful guide and tool

I know I wouldn't personally attempt my first rebuild on a 700R4 trans but that's just me. I think you'd be money ahead by having either my trans guy build it or find a local reputable shop near you and have them build it. There are some special tools involved in order to take it apart and put it together so unless you have access to those tools you'll be buying them as well as the kit and then HOPE that you do it right the first time otherwise you'll probably end up paying to have it built afterall.

Hey Scott! I forgot did you get a quote from him already from last time we talked? I'm really broke so that is my only real concern but you are right it would be nice to just have him do it and be done with it. My only other concern was I'm not 100% sure why this second one went out? I mean I know the fluid was low for since I my pan dumped a bunch but I'm also wondering if my tv cable had anything to do with it?

But ya get a quote and I'll see if I can pull together the money. I want the rebuild to be awsome but dd worthy.

Hey Brian,
Check out Raptor Transmission. I have rebuilt about 6 of em now and the ATSG manual is invaluable. I think you COULD do it yourself, but you may not want to. I invested about $400.00 in just the tools needed to do them. Can you do it without all the special tools, probably, but I wouldnt want to. Anyway, you may want to consider having someone else do it. They arn't that hard to do, but if youve never done one, there is alot of stuff to consider. Just my 2 cents.

ya im really leaning on Scotts buddy to do it i think if i get an affordable quote. I only know like two shops around here that would do it and they both suck. I would never trust them to rebuild it with what they say they are putting in it. I was also contimplating buying the kit and paying someone to put it together becuase at least i know what went in it, but it sounds like Scotts friend is pretty reliable.

Brian, he did give me a quote and I had called and gave it to you back then but can't remember what it was. I'll see about calling him today and asking him again and i'll get back to you.
