so i was originally going to go with a BTO 700r but i have no $$ and my dad said he will help me rebuild it...im gonna kill him if it doesnt come out right (i DD my truck) so i guess im going to order all the HD parts i can to build it up to the level 2 tranny from BTO. is there anyone that has done this that can help me with a list of parts or certain parts that would be good to replace while im there (like a pump)?

You might search around here, DIY 700R4 builds are generally frowned on. Not doubting your ability, but there were some posts about how you need X number of special tools to accomplish pressure tests??? during the build. But, I have never worked on trannies:dunno:, so GOOD LUCK

Did you find that thread? I looked briefly but came up empty. My computer skills suck:mad:. But if you do rebuild take lots of pics, Im interested!

X2 Just for the sake of seeing it done. I watched a th400 rebuild once but it was a quicky just to get by for a few months and not a full on rebuild.

alright, ill try and remember to bring the camera when im doing it, it wont be for a couple weeks at least though.:(

There are threads on this...

a "list" is really how much money you wanna spend... a fully, bulletproof 700 can run ya upwards of 1500 in upgrade parts, NOT including torque converter... a nice upgrade is about 900, without converter...

initial upgrades are a beast sunshell, bigger pump, billet servo, good clutches, boost valve, etc...

BUT that is far from "the best of" . then you can get into hardened shafts, 5 pinion planetaries, yada, yada...

I wont even get into converters.. It's an often overlooked item. huge differences in quality and cost...

I had every intention of doing my own... but have come to the conclusion I'm better off just saving a little more and having BTO put me together a sick manual valve body one... the mv is a little hard on the pump, but worth it for full line pressure and no tv imo..

ya, im not going to get into hardened shafts and all that, i just want the parts that wear out like clutches and springs, etc to be upgraded, in the kit i posted up top, it seems like they use all name brand parts and im going to get both the optional input drum and the transgo shift kit to go with it. thanks for the advice:bow:

i got an opinion kind of question, i have a BTO convertor in my stock tranny right now, and im getting another BTO convertor, they have a 1600 and 1800 stall. i cant remember what i have in there:crazy:, but my cam is .525 lift and 218/228 duration. i have 38s and 5.13s. and its a DD. any opinions?

I have never rebuilt an automatic transmission so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt but:

I have never seen anyone successfully rebuild a TH700R4/4L60E. I've known a couple people that tried and failed.

TH350/TH400's etc. are much easier to rebuild and tougher to screw up, from what I've heard.

It seems like 700's are tough to rebuild for whatever reason but I have no first hand experience.

ya, thats what im worried about, my dad rebuilt his TH350 in his 74 cutlass but ive heard 700s r different. but i guess ill learn the hard way:o

We're gonna need a little more info than that. What about the TV cable bothers you?

run the manual valve body then...

The set up--I understand that once it is set your good, but with the manual VB its one less thing to deal with...

bothered by how the life of the tranny depends on it? i never thought or worried about it, as long as u get the adjustment right, theres nothing to worry about.

Got that part..guess its the old school part of me not wanting a cable to tell it when to shift...wouldnt mind either one but the manual seems like a good idea..

If you don't mind manually shifting the gears, a manual valve body is a great way to go.

Just seems like it would be a little more durable, I ran a reverse pattern manual in a street/strip car a few years ago and it seemed to do fine. Seems llike i should have posted my own thread here..Noob mistake..sorry-----------
