Folks the worst happened to me last ight. Two days ago I replaced my radiator with a new Aluminum one from Autozone. It bolted up nicely and all seemed well.

Last night I was driving from Oil Rig to my hotel and my Blazer died. I was doing about 70MPH at the time and she just died. I restarted it after about 5 minutes and drove for another mile or so before she quit again. I called a tow truck and had her towed to the hotel where I noticed trany fluid coming form the radiator area. Turns out that the "brand new" radiator fractured and was leaking my tranny fluid out and therefore I ran her hot. I'm real worried about this. To add to this I subsequently got an engine code 45.

Now cool with the radiator removed I am able to shift into all gears with the engine off. I will install a new radiator and try to start her up.

You might want to change and flush the tranny fluid. if the internal radiator trans cooler was leaking You dont want water/coolant in the trans.
Code 45 is the 02 sensor is seeing a rich air fuel condition. I dint see how your engine dieing is related th the radiator replacement unless you over heated it real bad.
If you did not overheat I would suspect the dist module.

The motor didnt overheat but the tranny may have. The engine just keep dying after starting wont idle or nothing. As for the dist module, do you mean the distributor itself?

There's a small computer module on the distributor under the rotor, in the same place where a Vacuum advance would be.

I would go back to AZ and tell them that the radiator ruined your transmission and see what they say. They should have to pay for it if it killed your tranny from a properly installed new radiator. The radiator was defective and has caused additional damage.

And their warrantees expressly state they're not liable for incidental stuff like that.

In this hobby, you gotta remember that "4x4" in uppercase ... is $X$. :deal:

Your trans should be fine. What will happen if enough fluid is lost is that the trans will no longer shift, this will happen long before the trans can even get hot enough to do any damage. Also you engine dying is a different problem than your cooler leak. Like someone else already said sounds like a bad ignition module inside the distributor. If you let the truck sit for a while will it start back up? If so start it and let it run until the engine is up to temp and then check the trans fluid level.

I hope that the tranny is good.

This is true. I had a talk with the AZ and the liability would fall on the manufacturer of the radiator.

I found and had it tested and its all good. Its the fuel pump thats out.
Fuel pump was the next thing I was going to say if your module checked out.
I am sure your tranny is fine. I doubt you got it hot enough or ran it long enough to do damage.
I would worry however. If the cooler was bad/leaking that coolant got into the trans fluid. That will kill your tranny. When you drain the radiator. If you see trans fluid/oil floating in the radiator coolant. You should flush the trans.

Yep, coolant will F up your trans clutches. I've seen it happen before, with very little use after the coolant and ATF mixed. All was flushed out and fine, then trans took a crap about 2 months later. Good luck, and I hope the coolant didn't get into the trans.

Guys, he said the radiator was leaking trans fluid, not that he had water and trans fluid mixing. Yes the cooler can go bad but the line pressure of the trans is greater than the 16 psi found in a cooling system so the trans fluid would end up in the water not the other way around.

i didnt see any tranny fluid in coolant or coolant in tranny fluid. the tranny fluid was just running out of the radiator but i couldnt tell from where as it was pitch black and raining ice that night.

That is what i was trying to get across. That you just simply have a trans fluid leak coming from the radiator somewhere.

You need to understand one thing about a bad trans cooler in the radiator. The problem is that coolant pressure stays up when the engine is off, and trans line pressure goes to zero. Therefore, the coolant DOES go back into the trans quite often.:doah:
IF the only leak at the radiator is external, then it would have to be right at the fittings. It may not even be a failure of the rad itself. No way to know without looking carefully and probably starting the truck to see exactly where the leak is.

x2 !!!! The OP said the trans cooler was fractured.
