Didnt find what i was lookin for in my search . My blaze 89 350 700r4 241 4.56s and 37's. Im trying to dial in my TV cable as it sits now it the trany shifts around 3,000 rpms and is very harsh. Im just trying to get a feel if im close thanks guys.

I have been doing the same thing trying to dial in my tv cable.

http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Instructions/instructions/gm_tv_cable_adjust.htm

c. Road test the vehicle. Under moderate acceleration your shift points should be close to the following:
1-2…………………15-20 MPH
2-3…………………25-30 MPH
3-4…………………40-45 MPH

Although being lifted and not stock gearing you'r speedo may be a bit off

How do you bring the shift points higher in the spectrum? Pull the adjuster farther out of the bracket?

Actually looked at the link. It has a much more detailed set of instructions than what came with the new cable. THink I will have to give these a try.

Yes the closer to the fire wall the higher or firmer the shift thank for the info.

On a 700R4 you "SET" the TV cable and then you're done. From there if you want to play with shift points you need to be playing with the governor weights and springs.

True, it should be set in a specific procedure, and should only be moved a notch or two from there. Slippage can occur if not set properly.

If the cable is adjusted too loosely your transmission will exhibit soft, stacked shifts (not spread out). DO NOT CONTINUE DRIVING VEHICLE IF THIS HAPPENS!

And this is exactly what my 700R-4 does...

Gonna try to adjust it later and will post up if it makes any noticable difference.

Rene, DO NOT "adjust" the TV cable but rather SET it like it is supposed to be done.

Press in the tab and push the slider towards firewall.
Release the tab and rotate the throttle lever to WOT and the cable will self adjust itself as evidenced by a few audible clicks. Release the throttle lever and check the cable for any signs of binding or sticking.

yup, one of the reasons I'm going with BTO"S manual valve body... full line pressure all the time...

That was my intention...I just didn't word what I was going to do correctly. I have no intention of trying for a custom setting or anything like that. All I know is that it is apparent my TV cable needs to be reset right now, and this could be all that is wrong with the tranny.

Don't forget that diesels use a different torque convertor AND governor and someone could have swapped a trans at some point with one from a diesel leaving you with an incorrect governor. If after setting the TV cable and you still have issues i would replace the governor with a new one (they are only aound $20.00 or so the last time i bought one for my 700R4).

It all appears original, as in every fastener, clip, etc is all where it should be. Dirt/grease is consistant with what the engine looks like underneath too. I'm nearly 100% that this is the original tranny. Having a diesel pick-up I can definitely say the diesel version shifts very differently from this one too.

Does anyone have a pic of the tab you're supposed to push? I'm assuming it's on the backside of the bracket like the illustration shows?

if its a GM cable, it's a flat "D" shaped button on the inside, dizzy side of the cable.. pretty large, about thumb size....

and i know yours is the budget build, but if you've got anything in the way of a cooler kicking around the garage, even tube/fin to throw in the system, the trans'll love ya... :wink1:

We'll see how it responds to setting the TV cable. If it still seems "soft" I'll chuck the NV4500 in front of the 241 and call it good. :D I have everything for the swap except for the 32 spline input. Overall length is identical so I wouldn't even have to mess with drivelines.

I do know when i manually shift it the shifts are more normal feeling. If I leave it in OD the shifts are very early, one right after the other and so soft they're almost imperceptible. Fluid color is good though, and I don't feel any evidence of slipping, although it might just be slight enough I wouldn't be able to notice.

The "button" faces the driver side fender and can be reached using a small screwdriver through the throttle bracket.
