700r4 shift points?

Ok so I just got my 700R4 reinstalled after burning it up.

I'd like to get an idea of the shift points and rpms to judge if the TV cable is set up correctly.

It seems to upshift just fine but I would like to get an idea of when I should expect a downshift.

Every vehicle is different, tire size and gearing both affect RPM which in turn will affect shift points. You can't judge this by anyone else's rig or you may just be buying another new trans. If you're not sure have a shop set the TV cable for you.

I've got 35" tires and 4.56 gears so I am assuming it should be similiar to stock. I just would like to get an idea of when the thing should down shift.

If you hold the throttle constant while in 3rd and then hit a big hill I would expext it to down shift without pressing on the gas. Or if you want to pass someone while cruising in 3rd I would expect a downshift.

I'm just looking to get an idea of when I should expect that to happen. If mines not working I'll probably take it to AAMCO to get it set. I have heard stories of them screwing this cable up.
 
Finally figured out my problem. I think my TV cable stretched.

I kept pulling the ratchet out as far as it would go and it just would not detent down shift. I took a .10 fishing weight and clipped it on the end of the cable to shorten it, instantely the transmission started working correctly. Time to replace the cable, I don't see why or how the cable got stretched.
 
Never though getting a new TV cable would be so difficult. I called a lot of part stores in my area and they were clueless what a TV cable or throttle valve cable was LOL. I even had to help a parts guy locate it on his computer. That was shucks which wanted $52.. about $30 to much.

Just for fun try calling a parts store in your area and ask for a TV cable see if they have any clue what you are talking about.
 
We have knowledgable people at my store so you ask for a TV cable and you'll get a TV cable.
 
Not at mine, they just stare and eat thier boogers:haha: All the chain stores that I went to didnt have it, but they did have a kick down cable for an '85 Blazer.:doah: 18 bucks is about the going rate here. I wish the Bumper to Bumper was open when I work on trucks becuse I am not knowledgable enough to buy ahead of time.

Yup exactly what I get. Many places I had to give up because they just couldn't find it.

I went to Knechts the person behind the counter had no clue. The kid paying for a part at the register was like "the tranmission cable duh" LOL

I had another guy at Napa tell me he had 44 years experience (this is after I had to explain what it was) and that it was a dealer only item. Fricken amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
 
I think the guys at the auto parts places around here would probably give me directions to Best Buy if I asked for a TV cable. :doah:

Can the TV cable be replaced without dropping the transmission pan?

I am getting tired of wasting oil on the damn thing. 11 quarts at $6/quart isn't cheap.
 
yes. If I remember right, it has one bolt with a 3/8 head holding the end of the cable. getting the end on and in thew tranny cn be fructrating, but not that big of a deal. route cable, snap in bracket, "set" it and youre done,
 
Yes it can. Disconnect from throttle linkage. Remove bolt at tranny connection. Remove from tranny. Once you pull the cable from the tranny, there is a little hook that connects to a loop in the tranny. That loop should NOT fall into the tranny. Install in reverse order. Don't forget to properly set the cable! It really is a driveway job. I'm no mechanic, but it was quite simple.:wink1:
 
Oh yeah, I know what you mean with the fluid cost. 3 tranny changes, one valve body, one extra wire harness, and a lot of look-sees with a 16 qt. pan! I figure I have about $650-$700 in tranny fluid in a year and 3 mos!:mad::mad::(:(:eek1::eek1:
