-just wondering why my-89-700r4 is holding on to 1st gear when its hot but shifts fine when its cold-its not the tv cabl, checked it an it looks fine.any one can help point me to what it might be ,that would help.
THANKS

TV cable is what controls the shift points on a 700R4.

Your half right. TV (throttle valve) pressure AND governor pressure together make up shift points. There is a dome looking cover on the rear of the transmission (side of trans after the pan), remove that cover and pull out the governor. Inspect the plastic gear on the governor itself for wear or stripped out gears. If gears are worn, replace it, if the gear looks fine, hold the governor with the gear facing upwards. The two wieghts should fall and a little valve inside the shaft of the governor should move freely without any bind. If the governor passes the test (keep in mind that it will probably seem fine because you stated the problem only happens with hot), make sure to really inspect it, then your problem is in the valve body. Perhaps a binding 1-2 shift valve. My bet is that it is the governor. Fortunately they are cheap.

yea I agree with governor or valve body is stuck. I would really say governor but when I toasted my governor it would hold all of the gears really long, hot or cold till it completely went. Had a valve body become "stuck" and it wouldnt shift into 4th.
