700r4: Someone kill me...

After careful thought and some tinkering with the POS 700r4 in my burb I've come to the conclusion: It's dead.

It won't even engage gears cold now. Time to cut the emotional ties and let it go.

MY DECISION: Th400 :D

I know I lose OD and a few MPG. I don't care really. This is a camping rig and will barely see the highway (I live 200 yards from BLM land in NV).

I see advance adapters makes a conversion kit from 700r4 to TH400. They claim I can use the stock transfercase, crossmember, and drive lines without any issues. Is there truth to this? Yeah, the adapter is pricey in my opinion (LIKE $475), but I'm tired of dealing with 700r4 "picky-ness".

Anyone used this thing? I can't download the install guide: Will I need to change the trans output shaft? What kind of vechicle(s) should I be looking at to find the trans I'll need(year, model, options)?

Much thanks in advance!

I'm new to the GM world, so your help is keeping me going!

:bow::bow: Without you guys, I'm just another sad ex-yota runner:bow::bow::bow:

I'm gonna stay with my 700R4. If I ever need to rebuild, it'll get this:

I agree... If it was my DD. But I want something heavier duty! And MPG's don't concern me.

And someone please correct me if I am wrong but: Didn't the 3/4 ton Suburbans all come with TH400s??? Making it the "heavy duty" trans to have?

Why they put a car and light truck trans in a hefty 1/2 ton burban I'll never know! :o

Corrections please? Am I wrong/right? Or is this just a personal preference?

I missed your other thread on that valve body. Interesting idea but I can't help but think you're going to get some pretty damn firm light throttle shifts.
I've got a TCI shift kit and the Jet apply servos and it's way to harsh on WOT upshifts, I'd hate that kind of shift all the time.

Help Quick

I found an 84 TH400 out of a 3/4 ton suburban WITH transfercase!

Will it fit with the advance adapters TH400 adapter?

What are my possible x-case options bolted to this?

I need opinions quick as I would like to get this thing tomorrow!!

Just bolt in da TH400 with the 208(?) TC. Who needs an adapter? Is it the aluminum 208. should have a tag in da back..

I would guess the split for TH400 and 700R4 is 50-50. I've had dayz where no OD's, and days were seen 3 in a row... I check eBay and CL all da time. I have 5 Subs, 4 6.2's, only 1 is a TH400, 1 gas 3/4 is a TH400, and more 1/2 tons had the 700, if not all... Def not GM's HD choice...

My '87 Sub 3/4ton 6.2 TH400 208... LOL!!!

Problem solved! (or so I hope)

Today I picked up a TH400 "HD"/NP208 combo out of an 84 3/4 ton Suburban. Tranny looks good, fluid is nice and red in color. The guys's suburban blew his 350 so he sold it, kept the trans and t-case to use later. Never ended up using it, so I picked it up for....

:D:D:D $100 :D:D:D

So on to the swap questions(going in a 90 GMC Burb 1/2t):

Would this be a direct bolt in?

Or would I need crossmember/drivelines from another 3/4t?

Things I see i need as of right now:

Cooler lines
Vacuum line from a factory 350/th400

Any other ideas? Throw 'em at me, I'm new to this so I can use all the help/criticism I can get! :haha:
