700R4 TCC locking up early

Haven't heard from Bowtie yet, but it was sounding great and I was all in, until I read the installation manual. https://manuals.hgmelectronics.com/...f?inst-v=0a748431-ddc8-4b37-a528-123651e49638
Towards the end, it sounds like you're going to lose your ability to lock your TCC in other gears manually. I'm going to call back and verify this, but I don't think I'd like that. The rep said the trans will continue to function normally minus the TCC lockup if their unit fails, the vehicle can still be driven, just no lockup. I'll update when I hear back on this.

According to their rep, you can still use a manual lockup switch, you just splice it into the green and white wire and it will lockup whenever the switch is activated. So, I'm really seeing no disadvantage to this unit, if you can afford it it sounds like a win/win. You also get the ability to monitor your trans pressures anytime you want, since you're installing a pressure sensor as part of the unit. You can configure it pretty much however you want via bluetooth from your cell phone. And last, but certainly not least, every part is made in the USA and it's assembled here, too. At least that's the claim. It's on my list, right after the rear shocks that I haven't had in a couple of years. Very nice folks over there, and the person answering the phone can answer the questions.

Cool. I am stuck on the tps, since I have a q jet. Adding a tps might be a deal breaker. I guess I need to see how it could be done, be fore I decide

Yeah, I guess there's a limit on how far backwards technology can go! I just heard from AT&T that they aren't going to support my 3G flip phone anymore. What's next, cars that drive themselves?

3g dang your cutting edge, still on a 14,400 dial up. :haha:Just up graded from 9600

A little late to this post, but the comment in the OP talking about going from 1,950 RPM in 3rd to 1,100 RPM in 4th/OD doesn't seem right as it's too big of a jump. 3rd gear is 1.0:1 ratio and 4th is only 0.70:1, so if you are going the same speed and it shifts from 3rd to 4th it should only drop to around 1,350 RPM or so.

As talked about already, overdrive really isn't meant to be used for much acceleration but rather just maintaining speed....though you can accelerate some in OD. That's why in just about any automatic trans equipped car if you are cruising down the road in OD and try to do anything more than a real light acceleration it will downshift. I know in any manual trans vehicles with OD I have driven I normally only shift into OD once up to cruising speed, or at least really close to it.

Lock up in 4th will drop 100 or more
Rpms than an unlocked torque converter.
When I lock up 3rd drops more than 200 rpms.

Exactly. From 3rd to 4th would be ok if it would stay in 4th for a while. But mine is shifting into 4th and locking up almost immediately, which is dropping me another 2-300 rpms. I'm actually surprised I can read my tach that well, the needle is never nice and steady, so everything is a educated guess. The whole big block thing is new to me also...I'm used to having a much larger rpm range to play in...seems this thing has everything wrapped up in about a 2000 rpm range, takes a little getting used to.
