700r4 torque converter

do you know what input spline your transmission is? the early ones were 27 spline, the later ones are 30. it will depend what year vehicle the transmission came out of. You need to know to get the right convertor. I have a good 30 spline.

Is there a place to look on the tranny to find this? Not sure if it is original or not. I'm putting in its 3rd motor and not sure if the tranny was ever replaced or not. Dang thing allready killed 2 diesels so the tranny probly isn't too far behind if its the original.

if it's an '82 tranny and it's still the original it's one of the few in existence, they were prone to problems. the small shaft that sticks out of the center of the front of the transmission, (what the torque converter slides over), count the grooves in the end of this shaft. the 27 spline was used until '84, and then they upgraded to the 30 spline. It's a little larger shaft for more strength.

Well I went out and counted em. Came up with 27.... /forums/images/icons/frown.gif I got a rare one then!! Maybe I can sell it on Ebay as a rare relic! lol

Not useing the diesel one cause I've read on here that it stalls too low for a gas motor. This truck is going to be a daily driver. Anybody used one with a gas motor before? Putting a 400 in front of it.

how much you looking to spend ? i have an 84 camaro 700r4 and verter in car and is daily driver and clean fluid,. i plan on going ot longtail th350 in it.

deal or no ?

I dunno, its up to you, i am still rebuilding the th350 i wanna use in the car, so,.. i just want 3 gear instead of 4 is all, I dont knwo what i would sell verter for. good Q, hmm... i know how much I owuld want for whole tranny, I guess 25% of that should be roughly the verter price, 82-84 were 27 spline

thanks,
R
