I am currently installing my rebuilt 700r4. I removed the pan to install a drain plug. Can I re-use the pan gasket? It was installed as part of the rebuild, but never used. I would rather not toss a good gasket if possible...

Thanks!

I have re-used gaskets plenty of times. I'm cheap though, others may not be such risk takers lol.

As long as it's not hardened from heat or age, re-use it.

With tranny pans, I've seen the bolts work loose enough times to recommend at least re-torquing them once after having driven it for awhile. In-lbs, not ft-lbs. Those threads are not very forgiving. :)

I agree with dyeager535 if its not cracked or shows aging re-use it. If you want to go a step further with re-using gaskets you can get a lube locker gasket for the 700r4. i got one on my trans, and differentials, no leaks and they are ment to be re-used. Paid around $27 for each gasket at 4 wheel parts.

Thanks, I will reuse it. It is new. It's sevice life consists of being bolted on, then unbolted. The tranny hasn't been run yet.

I will pick a used rubber gasket over the cork that comes with a new filter every time.

I was gonna say, if it's cork, replace it with a better rubber one. I wouldn't chance reusing a cork gasket even if the trans has not been run yet. All that fluid is expensive to have to drain and replace if it leaks. Not worth the trouble IMO.

Rubber is the only one I'd reuse. Cork or paper will perma-compress and even if it comes off clean (without leaving bits on the surface) will not seal properly. May not leak right away but it will. It's not worth the trouble.
