hey there all you chevy addicts,I both a 1986 chevy truck lately and I'm wondering if the 700r4 trans in 86 was better than the first models in 83-84,because those years were no good, any tips anyone.

The 700R4 trans had some changes and upgrades in 1988. The early (1982-1987) aren't as good IF they are still stock. Many shops when they rebuild those years do all the ugrades possible so they are almost just as good as the 1988-present 700R4

I got 238K out of my 85, which I was told was a rarity.
I had a 18000gvw cooler on it since day one also.

I believe one of the upgrades was the case itself. The '88 and newer cases are referred to as "Rainbow" cases because part of the casting looks like a rainbow.

Personally, I'd find a newer 700R4 and rebuild that.
