700r4 Transmission cannot come out of 1st Gear But Has Reverse And Transmission Fluid Is Still Pink

I have a 1990 GMC Suburban 4x4 V1500 350 gas

About A week or two ago i had a new 700r4 Transmission put in at the transmission shop.

Then yesterday i had to step on the throttle hard and the engines rpm went down and the gear could not go out of 1st gear amd max speed is only 15 to 20 mph with high rpms.

I have a warrenty with the shop however im wondering if its something simple to fix
 
I'd check to see if the tv cable is stuck. If not, call the trans shop tomorrow and have them tow it in. Governor may have failed or stuck. Don't drive it, make it as easy as possible for the trans shop to fix.

TV CABLE? What is that and where is it located? If you dont mind telling me
 
Look on the throttle body. It will have a cable hooked up leading down to the trans. Looks like a kickdown cable for a th350 or th400. Open and close the throttle a few times and make sure it springs back. It probably wont be tight with the throttle fully closed. Thats ok. Just be sure it moves out and springs back.

It springs back its just that when i drive it does not shift out of first gear. I hope the gears arent slipped. I just stepped on the gas hard to the floor and the rpm just died down. I can go but slowly since it cannot get our of 1st and the transmission fluid is good which its pink and no smell or smoke plus theres still reverse. Unlike the other transmission that had not reverse but still go but only in 1st and the trans fluid was not pink it was brown and smelling olus there were transmission noise too. And it did the same thi k when i was going at 70 or 75 mph on the interstate and it died down and same problem like i said earlier

UPDATE! Just a few minutes ago i did like you told me. However i just fiddle with the trottle body throttle by going "back and forth" on the throttle by hand. The tv cable did spring back and when i took it for s drive to the store the gear came out of first amd went to second gear! Dont know if it was the cable or a clogged transmission hose
 
It's a TV (throttle valve) cable adjustment issue. When I had mine adjusted incorrectly, it would not shift out of first. Did you have the shop build the trans and put it in or did you have them install it too? If they installed it, they should know what they are doing on the cable adjustment.

Given your previous statement not knowing what it was in the first place I'd error on the side of caution and get it back to the trans shop to have them adjust it properly. No offence intended, but I'd hate to see you nuke the trans in the process. Tow it if possible.

I agree with Rob. If there is an adjustment issue, and you have already paid them for a warranty, I would let them adjust it for you. As said before, the TV cable controls line pressure in the tranny, if it is out of adjustment, it is possible for your clutches to engage lightly and slip under loading. Which can fairly quickly toast a brand new tranny.

So get the adjustment set right, preferably without driving it in its current wacky state.
