A bit of a rookie question here but I'm currently driving my rig on a 5,000 mile trip; I could use some advice. My transmission fluid is low and I want to confirm the fluid-add location. I already found the type of fluid to use. I've found some pretty detailed transmission rebuild threads which is a big help for when I get home but right now I just need the quick fix. Additional suggestions are welcome.
I have a 90 Burban with the 350TBI and 700r4; do I add fluid where the dip stick goes?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Thanks all. It was low when I checked it earlier (in park, running, level ground) so I'll shoot to top it off for now when I can! I had checked it before my trip and it was fine so I'm not exactly sure what ate up the fluid. I climbed some steep hills for long distances so I'm thinking that was it, frequent shifts between 3rd and 4th

You might want to check the fluid level in the transfer case. If you have excess, that’s where your tranny fluid went. If that’s the case, a front input seal on the t-case is in order.
How does one check the fluid level of the transfer case? Any other additional indicators I can look for, I think I may be losing trans fluid. Thanks in advance

there will be a pipe plug in back 2 actually 1 fill and 1 drain remove fill(upper one) if oil pours out it over full. Most common cause would be trans fluid getting past the seal between trans and t case.
If so you may not need to replace seal. There are vents on the trans and the t case for air to escape when the units get hot, if the trans vent is clogged up that pressure forces trans oil into the t case. Clean the vents. Your axles have vent too, check and clean them out as well.
If the the oil continues to leak into t case the seal or shaft surface has been damage
