Hi all,
I've had my '88 k5 blazer for about a year now and I'm now trying to track down some (possibly related) issues - any input appreciated!
- since I got the truck, when driving up long inclines on the freeway, I notice a sudden strong burning smell sometimes when I'm on the throttle fairly hard. It's a strange smell that I don't recognize -- not burning oil. I swapped in a different motor and I'm still getting the smell so I don't think it's coming from the engine.
- the truck sometimes dies when shifting into reverse, or from reverse to drive. This has recently gotten worse - now it dies sometimes when turning the steering wheel. I'm getting a code 42 from the ECU.
- just recently, the truck won't shift into 2nd and 3rd until very high rpm (3500-4000). I checked the TV cable and it seems ok....not entirely sure it's adjusted correctly, but it seems to move in and out OK. I checked the governor gears and they seem to be ok.
Is my transmission toast? Could a dying transmission cause all these symptoms?
