91 V1500 With 182,000 miles. Not sure if its the original trans, I'm assuming not:whistle:

When I purchased the truck, I noticed a long 1st gear with a not so smooth shift into 2nd. After the axle swap and lift it seemed to get worse, assuming because of the lower gearing (4.56). I adjusted the TV cable by depressing the tab and holding the throttle pedal to the floor. I now get really smooth 1-2 shifting, but I feel like it may be shifting too soon between gears, especially into OD. Any ideas? It just seems to go into OD prematurely, and wants to "hunt" for OD while going up small hills.

Have a buddy hold the throttle wide open by depressing the throttle pedal. While this is at the W.O.T. position, check that the tv cable is as tight as it can be. You can do this by simply pushing down on the cable and seeing if it deflects enough to pull more from the housing. It should be as tight as a banjo string.

Don't drive it with a loose cable. Will die.

I would hate to try to adjust that thing. I've heard of them getting stuck if they've got some crud on them and burning up the throttle valve. Never heard of that happening to a brand new cable though, just when you mess with an old one.

When I used to run a 700R4, it would shift between 1st and 2nd pretty firm but it would still hunt gears if I took the truck on the interstate no matter what I did. Drove me crazy. I think you have to have your axle gears to tires ratio pretty close to stock for it to not do that. Good luck.
