700r4 tv cable frustration

So I've been working on a 1990 k5 blazer with the 350 tbi and the 700r4 transmission. When I first got the truck the shift from 1st to 2nd was way too late and I knew I needed the tv cable replaced. I went and got a new one from O'reilleys and watched the 1a auto tutorial and replaced it myself exactly as directed. It worked great for a while no problems or anyone but I took it for a test drive here a while back and it wouldnt go into second. Popped the hood and the cable had become detached, put it back on took it for another drive and it switched into second but on the way back home it popped off again. Went and got a new one, put it in, and now it will break the plastic snap before throttle even reaches fully open, it's acting like the cable is way too tight for it even with the cable adjustment all the way out. I could really use some help with this as there's no way I could affor a new transmission let alone taking it to a shop and if it's just something stupid I'm gonna need some pointers because I was up until the early AM's trying to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated:dunno:

Wonder if it's the correct cable the shop gave you.
On the old cable what part was popping off? The connection at the throttle body?

Well the cable that came on it was just loose or worn out but once the RPM'S were high enough it'd slam into second, but yes on the cable I replaced it would pop off at the throttle body, I got ahold of someone besides a counter guy from O'reilleys and it turns both cables were the incorrect cable for the 1990, I only drove it less than a mile before I noticed something was wrong so I'm really hoping it's not too late:what: The fluid on the dip stick doesn't seem burnt and it's not glittery, does that mean anything? Thanks.

Sounds like you got the right cable now. Is that right? How does it shift now?

If you are still looking for a cable, might I suggest you tell them it's an 87 Blazer. Or even an 85. Check to see if the part numbers are different. I would be surprised if they were. They might, however, be different from the one you have. If so, something is funky.

Can you get a picture of the bracket that holds the cable near the throttle body. I want to see the mount, cable, and throttle body in one shot.

The correct cable is apparently special order and they were handing me the wrong ones the two times assuming it would work, the cables they sold me were only good for 86 and older I believe is what he said. The correct one should be here around Saturday. And I have no idea how to upload pictures onto here with an iPad:dunno:

Sounds like they have it right.
'86 and older are carb
87-91 is TBI

Can you upload to Photobucket? Then copy and paste the photobucket location here.

Yeah I'll give it a try tomorrow when I got enough light for some pictures and I'll see what I can do.
